ExpertQA publishes structured answers to questions professionals actually encounter at work.
ExpertQA was founded in Austin, Texas in 2020 by a group of former operators, consultants, and investigative journalists who kept seeing the same problem: the most useful answers to operational questions — how to structure a cap table, when to switch accounting systems, whether to classify a worker as a contractor — were buried inside paywalled research reports, private Slack groups, and the heads of experienced practitioners.
Our work is to surface those answers, verify them against current regulations and recognised practices, and publish them in a format that working professionals can act on.
What we publish
Every piece on ExpertQA starts with a real question. Our researchers identify recurring questions from public forums, professional communities, our inbox, and topic monitoring. Each question goes through a four-step process: research, drafting by a domain specialist, editorial review, and citation check. Answers range from 400 to 2,000 words depending on the complexity of the question.
How we source
We cite primary sources — government publications, regulatory filings, standards bodies, peer-reviewed research, and named experts we interview. When the answer involves interpretation or judgement, we say so. When experts disagree, we present the disagreement rather than pretending there's consensus.
Who writes
Our editorial team is led by Mark Sullivan, formerly a research director at a management consultancy. Contributors are practising professionals: working CFOs, startup lawyers, VP-level operators. We pay every contributor, and we publish their names.
How we stay independent
ExpertQA does not accept sponsored content. We don't promote specific vendors in exchange for payment. The editorial direction is set internally and reviewed against our style guide. We make revenue through a paid subscription for in-depth research pieces and through aggregated research engagements with institutional clients. Neither revenue stream influences what we publish on the public site.
